Freelance Copywriting

Copywriting includes writing slogans, leaflets, adverts, brochures, jingles as well as copy for promotional or corporate documents, and all other requirements for new media. Web content, in particular, is becoming big business.

Apart from having a creative mind and linguistic dexterity, it's important to have a commercial awareness, to see the bigger picture and be able to adapt your style according to the brief.

This can be a very rewarding area of work - both in terms of diversity of projects and revenue! It can sometimes sit alongside proofreading and editing - working with words makes it easier to see how they can be used effectively. It can provide a bit of light relief, enabling you to flex your cerebral muscle in a slightly different way. Some copywriters start life in an advertising or public relations background, accumulate skills and knowledge, and then use this as a springboard into a freelance career.

Whatever your platform, product or predisposition, copywriting offers the opportunity to showcase your own linguistic talents for a very diverse customer base. Oh, and the pay can be pretty good...

I love being a writer. What I can't stand is the paperwork.
