Winter newsletter

Posted on Friday, 12 February 2010 11:26AM by
Welcome to the Winter newsletter from Freelancers In The UK!

Interesting piece of trivia for February. According to tradition, 12-14 February is said to be borrowed from January. If these days were stormy, the year would be favoured with good weather. If they were fine, the weather all year would be foul.  In our topsy turvy climate, not sure what that means for us!

Make it funny and informal,
they said, this is what Freelancers in the UK subscribers like

But we are Abbey Tax, I cried. Our core services are tax advice and tax investigations insurance. Where is the humour in that!? I asked.

I mean, contract reviews with a full detailed report down 17.5 % to £160 + VAT won't have them crying with laughter, will it?  Or tax investigations insurance down by 20% to £84 per annum is hardly a side-splitter, is it?  Even 12-15% off Tax Losses Insurance won't have them rolling in the aisles, will it?

Possibly not, they said, but if you can offer that for the first three months of 2010, I bet that will put a smile on some of our subscribers faces.

OK, but we want more than just a smile, I said. Let's give your subscribers a chance to laugh all the way to the bank.  The first 50 people to sign up for a contract review and/or the insurances will get a further 10% off all these prices!

So, if you would like a little winter cheer and to be treated professionally (with fun and informality), please call Rob, Rebecca or Paul on 0845 223 2727 or contact survive35@abbeytax.co.uk and quote The Sales at Abbey Tax.

And I can personally testify that you will be dealing with some of the nicest people I have met in a long time. Paul in particular is keen to hear from lots of you, give him a call.

Speaking of nice people to do business with, ContractorUmbrella remain one of the top three Umbrella Companies in the UK, attributing their remarkable success to unparalleled levels of customer service, a highly competitive fee structure and a work ethic that keeps them ahead of the competition.

Unlike other Umbrella Companies, they do not charge a percentage of their clients income - their fee remains the same regardless of earnings which keeps costs to a minimum for its clients. It also has no hidden joining or leaving charges, no minimum commitment and no fees charged in between contracts.

On the subject of services for freelancers, we are delighted to recommend mortgage advice from Freelancer Mortgages Made Easy. FMME is a leading national mortgage brokerage specialising in bespoke mortgage solutions for freelance workers. They can help you avoid the disappointment of going down the traditional route of applying for a mortgage as they understand the unique circumstances in which freelancers operate. We have had some amazing feedback from members, subscribers and project posters over the last few months and are delighted that the word continues to spread!

There seems to be a definite shift towards longer term, in house contracts and as freelancers, we are by nature used to working flexibly but times are still tough. Keep calm and carry on, however, it makes sense sensible to explore other options such as diversification of services and increased networking. Stand firm on fees. We have all witnessed undercutting but experts advise that it is never easy to inflate prices once a client knows that they have been cut. We will do what we can to boost your online presence via the listings at Freelancers In The UK and still represent a cost-effective way for you to make the most of yourself, your skills, services and business – locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. Benefit from an additional boost by becoming our Freelancer In Focus.
Caroline Collier is our February star, read more about her at http://www.freelancersintheuk.co.uk/freelancer-in-focus-c317.html

If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant: if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome.
